A Study on the Hearing Loss of Industrial workers in Jeonbug Province

Abstract
This study was carried out to measure the environmental noise of various working-process of the industry and analyze the prevalence of the noise-induced hearing loss of the industrial workers in Jeonbug area.
To perform this study 36 industries were investigated about the environmental noise and then 754 workers were measured on their hearing loss during the 1st May to 31st July 1976.
The findings obtained were summarized:
1. Of the working-process in industries, 40.4 per cent were 90 db or more by A character.
2. The pattern of the hearing loss of workers showed typical tone gape curve at 4,000 §Ô in audiogram.
3. The hearing loss of male workers was greater than that of female workers.
4. By the speech average loss, 10 per cent of workers showed mild impairment pertaining to 31¡­45 db of hearing loss.
5. Service duration significantly correlated with hearing loss.
6. The prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss by ELI (Early Loss Index) was 50 per cent of male workers and 30 per cent of female workers.
